98. Poker Entry Fees – poker tournaments can be expensive to enter.

Often a poker player will agree to split the potential winnings in exchange for someone else paying the entry fee.

While in some ways it is just gambling and you could end up with nothing, it has yielded some huge returns in a few cases.  Occasionally, a lucky investor has put their money behind a gambler that went on to win a major tournament or even the main event at the World Series of Poker.

Steve Dannenmann (the Taxman) finished as runner-up at the 2005 WSOP Main Event. The 50/50 split of the $10K entry fee wit his friend Jerry Ditzel resulted in Ditzel receiving half of the $4.25M prize.
